Fall Hiking Club Route 2

Route 2 of the Fall Hiking Club follows the Wetland Trail. It’s wide and gravel lined at first, and thick with wildflowers.

As it winds into the woods, an short access trail leads to a wonderful little log birding blind.

The blind overlooks the wetlands, thick with lily pads today and a single Heron slowly drifting through.

A short boardwalk with a wonderful viewing bench edges and encircles the bog and hosts explosive clusters of wetland wildflowers.

Jewelweed,

and Rose Mallow are on the discovery list for the day.

Scarlett Lobelia is too pretty not to capture as well, as I search for the final goal of Pickerel Weed. That one, I never found.

A photo blind off the boardwalk, gives another view of the still wandering Heron as well as the flash of a Warbler.

The trail loops back to the old CCC built school bus stop, moved from it’s original location when I-44 encroached.
The total trail is a level 2 miles; perfect for a quick pleasant ramble, or an all day wildlife exploration.
